St. Louis Missouri Lodge #1

September 15th 2011 Trestleboard

Message from the East

Regular Communication on September 15th, 2011

As announced at the communication of September 1st, the communication of September 15th will begin at 7pm, with dinner to begin at 6pm. We are going to open on the First Degree, conduct brief business, confer the First Degree to Daniel Feldman, move to the Second Degree, confer the Second Degree to James Naumann, and then move to close. It will be a busy night but we will have Juan White and Miguel White in attendance to assist with the degree work; and our very own Curt Perkins to deliver the First Degree obligation and charge. I would encourage everyone to come to witness Curt's outstanding work in this degree.

Special Communication to be called on September 30th, 2011

This communication is being called for the purpose of bestowing the first degree for two candidates. While we usually attempt to meet earlier in the week, this particular week has Grand Lodge and Rosh Hashanah; plus the availability of the candidates, Temple, and degree teams really works out for this date. The need for this special communication is supported by the steady growth of the Lodge. We currently have seven individuals at various points of their journey in Freemasonry, and this special communication will help to move two of these men forward in becoming Brothers in our Lodge. Here is the breakdown as of the writing of this Trestleboard:

  • Petitions submitted in due form, received, and under investigation: 4
  • Petitions balloted and accepted, with candidates in waiting: 2
  • Brothers awaiting 2nd Degree: 1
  • Brothers awaiting 3rd Degree: 0
  • Total Outstanding: 7

Some Notes from the September 1st Communication

As promised, our regular meeting of September 1st was anything but regular. WB Robert Wheeler presented an outstanding presentation on the Golden Trowel of Missouri Lodge #1, accompanied by the Golden Trowel and the minutes of the meeting from our centennial celebration in 1916. Afterward, the Golden Trowel and its fitted case were available for all to examine during cake and coffee. This was the first in our education series, with the following events planned for the rest of 2011:

  • October - RWB Linton Kneemiller, the meaning of being invited to the East, and the proper use of the invitation.
  • November - Robert Meinert, Senior Steward, the Sons of the American Revolution and Masonry.
  • December - Bill Parr, Junior Warden, the meaning of the Holy Saints John and the Feasts of Saint John.
Special Event – Moonlight Lodge

Invitations have been sent to all of the Lodges of District 27 to notify them of this event on October 8th.

Special Event – Feast of St. John the Evangelist

We will hold the Feast of St John on December 27th as a holiday party for this year, and we invited Beacon Lodge #3 to participate. At one time this was a huge Masonic event and it will be open to Brethren and their guests at a nominal cost. We are attempting to research some traditional foods and celebrations for the event.

Special Event – Feast of St John the Baptist

To celebrate the end of the Masonic year, we will hold a meeting to coincide with the Feast of St John the Baptist, on June 23rd, and with proper approval, we will hold the event as a "Table Lodge". The concept of this event was brought forth by our Junior Warden, Bill Parr, and it could prove to be as interesting as our opening event of the Moonlight Lodge.

Official Visit on November 3rd, 2011

Our future DDG, Jeff Parrotte, has accepted our invitation for his official visit on November 3rd. We will be very glad to have him in attendance at which time he will be received and afforded the opportunity to present the Grand Masters message.

Thank you very much for all of your support,
